Patagonia is an amazing remote place, for people arriving from all over the world, visiting Patagonia is a highlight. This place offers many options, from the sealife in Peninsula Valdes, where you can see whales, penguins, sea lions, orcas, elephant seals, birds… to the beautiful lakes district in Bariloche, a place full of national parks, lakes, forests, volcanoes, forests and where you can practice many adventure activities, or just enjoy the scenery. But, let me focus in the southern portion of Patagonia, it´s Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, El Calafate and the amazing Perito Moreno Glacier and Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.
These three destinations are a must-see. In Ushuaia, you will discover the Beagle Channel, and all the magic of the End of the World. One of the most incredible pictures is from the boat, with the incredible Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. Disembark in the Martillo Island and enjoy the Magellanic Penguins, or visit one of the most historical estancias of Patagonia, it´s Estancia Harberton. In Ushuaia you can visit Tierra del Fuego National Park, and the Fagnano and Escondido Lakes in the heart of Tierra del Fuego Island. Amazing isn´t it. And what if you add an unforgettable cruise to Antarctica?
Cruise from Patagonia to Antarctica
Yes, after Ushuaia, you can start a 10-11-night cruise to the white continent of Antarctica. One of my favorite cruises is the BaseCamp Cruise to Antarctica. Take a look at the image below
The Antarctic Peninsula Basecamp cruise offers you a myriad of ways to explore and enjoy the Antarctic Region. This expedition allows you to hike, snowshoe, kayak, go mountaineering, and even camp out under the Southern Polar skies.
But from Ushuaia, you also can visit the incredible southern fjords and glaciers of Tierra del Fuego and the mythical Cape Horn.
Cruises from Patagonia to Cape Horn: Australis Cruises From Ushuaia to Punta Arenas
Another amazing option is to embark in Ushuaia aboard the Australis Cruises and enjoy an unforgettable 4-night cruise from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas, via the Cape Horn, southern glaciers, channels, and Magdalena Island Penguin Reserve. The Australis Cruises showcases the region’s pristine landscapes, rich wildlife, and fascinating human history aboard an expedition ship that brings an extraordinary level of comfort and service to the uttermost edge of the world. Leaving the twinkling lights of Ushuaia behind, the vessel calls on fabled spots like Cape Horn and Wulaia Bay before cruising down the Beagle Channel. Continuing through the maze of islands, we’ll visit a number of glaciers, frozen giants that guard the southern flank of the Fuegian Archipelago, before entering the legendary Strait of Magellan. The last stop is the Isla Magdalena and its boisterous Patagonia penguin colony before docking at Punta Arenas. Check more information about the Australis Cruise expedition called Patagonian Explorer
Once in Punta Arenas, you can go to Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine, another must-see in Patagonia. The park is fantastic, and many trekkings are available in the area, to enjoy Base de las Torres, or the traditional W Trekking. From Puerto Natales, there is another cruise option which is fantastic. It´s the Skorpios III Cruise to the Southern Channels and Fjords of Chile
Cruise from Patagonia to Southern Channels and Fjords of Tierra del Fuego: Skorpios III Cruise
The Skorpios III Cruise leaves Puerto Natales during the summer season. The Kaweskar Route is an amazing itinerary to visit remote landscapes of the southern portion of Patagonia. It´s a 3-night expedition, and it´s perfect to be combined with Torres del Paine. You will navigate through the Magellanic fjords and channels; disembarking on the Amalia, El Brujo, Bernal, Alsina Glaciers, and those in the area of Fiordo Calvo. Disembarkations are a really unique experience, to make trekkings and enjoying ice, ice and ice. It´s not Antarctica, but you will discover amazing places full of ice.
