Snorkeling with Sea Lions!
One of the most attractive adventure activities for travelers visiting Puerto Madryn and the area of Peninsula Valdes is Scuba Diving. Scuba is a discipline that is enjoyed by more and more visitors every day and there are many ideal underwater formations in and around the coast of Puerto Piramides in Peninsula Valdes, but also in the coasts of Puerto Madryn. There are many professional diving companies in the area that offer from the very first baptism dive to certified courses, some awesome deep dives, and wreck dives, amongst many other diverse options. The snorquelling is also a great activity you can enjoy in the area. Peninsula Valdes is well recognized as the Scuba Diving capital in Argentina.
One of the great alternatives amongst all of the dive options is snorkeling with Sea Lions. This interactive activity has become very popular and really is a must do experience, at least once in your life. Floating on the sea in a dive boat close to a Sea Lion colony activates the curious nature of these marine mammals and while the divers prepare to venture into the water the boat becomes surrounding by these excessively inquisitive creatures. Once over the side, one is immersed in the closest contact possible with these incredible animals that leaves in the area of the Valdes Peninsula.
DIVING OR SNORKELLING WITH SEA LIONS: The Excursion, timing and details
Pick-up starts early in the morning, to start this unforgettable experience. The boat leaves from Puerto Madryn toward Punta Loma around high tide, and 20 minutes later we reach the diving area. Punta Loma Reserve is a wonderful place to watch sea lions interact within the colony while on land as well as in the water. Punta Loma is a protected natural area and sea lion haven.
Once we are there, we can snorkel or dive with the Sealions and enjoy a stunning experience by way of first-hand contact with one of the friendliest marine animals. The whole tour lasts around 3 hours -with 45 minutes in the water-
This activity can be done all over the year, no special season. The estimated time is 3:30 hours, including a theoretical class on the premises and of course transfers to the area.
To enjoy this unique activity it is not necessary to be a certified diver and due to the use of a neoprene suit, it is not a requirement to know how to swim. So, it´s a great activity for the family because does not require swimming skills and is suitable for everyone aged 6 and over.
Calmly breathing while floating on the surface in a wetsuit with nothing more than a mask, snorkel, and fins and surrounded by these curious and friendly ocean-dwelling mammals is an unforgettable experience with sea lions.
