Itinerary

Day 1

TRELEW: Welsh Culture and Dinosaurs of Patagonia

Arrive at Trelew Airport or Puerto Madryn Airport. Trelew is a significant city in Chubut Province and serves as a gateway for those visiting Peninsula Valdes. Founded by Welsh settlers in the 19th century, it offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty. From the airport, you’ll be transferred directly to your hotel in Puerto Madryn, the main city in the area and the perfect starting point for exploring the remarkable Peninsula Valdes.

It’s your first day in Puerto Madryn, so you might want to relax or take a leisurely walk around the city. If you’re feeling adventurous and the activity is available, consider visiting Doradillo Beach. Here, you can marvel at the incredible sight of whales and their calves just a few meters from the shore—a truly unique and awe-inspiring natural spectacle! Please note, this optional activity is generally available from June to mid-September.

Day 2

PENINSULA VALDES: A sealife paradise

After breakfast, we’ll embark on one of the area’s signature excursions: a visit to Peninsula Valdes, a haven of marine and land wildlife. Expect to see not only whales and penguins but also sea lions, elephant seals, various bird species, and land animals like maras, guanacos, and foxes. We will reach the Peninsula via the Istmo Ameghino, where you’ll find an interpretation center and can spot birds at Bird Island using binoculars.

Our primary stop will be Puerto Piramides, a small village and hub for various activities. One highlight is the renowned whale-watching tour, available from June to mid-December. This optional activity lets you observe these majestic creatures up close from a boat—check the options below for more details.

After whale-watching, we’ll head to Caleta Valdes to visit two colonies: sea lions and elephant seals. Be sure to check our calendar for details on the fauna you can expect to see during your visit.

We’ll return to Puerto Piramides for the night, and if you’re visiting during penguin season, you’ll have the chance to explore the San Lorenzo penguin colony the following day. Check the optional activities below.

Day 3

PENINSULA VALDES: Penguins and more

After breakfast, take some time to enjoy the stunning ocean views from the coast—whales can often be seen and heard from here, which is truly amazing! Following this, we’ll continue our exploration of Peninsula Valdes, heading north to Punta Norte to see the sea lions and elephant seals. During March, April, and the September/October period, you might even spot orcas, though sightings are rare.

Next, if you’re visiting during penguin season, we’ll visit Estancia San Lorenzo to witness the largest penguin colony in South America, home to over 500,000 penguins in the summer. It’s an unforgettable experience!

After exploring the penguin colony, we’ll return to Puerto Madryn for our final night in the area.

Day 4

WELSH CULTURE & DINOSAURS OF PATAGONIA

On our last day, we’ll head to Trelew for your departure flight. Before you go, we’ll enjoy some exciting activities in the city. One highlight is the MEF (Museo Egidio Feruglio), which houses a remarkable collection of Patagonian dinosaurs. A must-see is the replica of Patagotitan Mayorum, one of the largest land animals ever discovered.
