It is one of the largest cities in Latin America with a lot of cultural offerings. Inhabitants of Buenos Aires are called porteños, “people from the port.” We will take a comprehensive Buenos Aires City Tour, highlighting many of the important landmarks and buildings in the city, as well as the various neighborhoods including La Boca, San Telmo, and Palermo.
Dinner this evening is in the renovated dockside area of Puerto Madero where you can enjoy a buffet dinner of typical foods.

From 1976 until 1984, a military junta or dictatorship ruled Argentina with a strict hand against dissidents. Thousands of Argentinians just disappeared (“los desaparecidos”), having been taken to detention centers where they were tortured and killed, with many buried in mass graves. Pregnant women were taken, allowed to live long enough to give birth, and then were executed; their children sent to live with military families. Stand in the Plaza de Mayo, where the March of the Mothers and the Grandmothers took place. View the Casa de Gobierno, better known as the Casa Rosada. The pink hue of the building is said to be a symbol of unification between two warring political factions, the Federales (whose color was red) and the Unitarios (represented by white). The balcony facing Plaza de Mayo served as the lofty stage from which Evita rallied the descamisados (the shirtless, or the working class). Meet with a University Professor who specializes in the history of Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo to discuss the events of the Guerra Sucia. Lunch is included at Café Tortoni, the oldest restaurant in Argentina. We will meet a local professor that will talk to us about the history of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo (Madres de Plaza de Mayo), in an open and informal class of history.
After lunch, we will continue to the Cabildo, the only colonial building on the Plaza de Mayo. This is the epicenter of the May Revolution of 1810, where patriotic citizens gathered to vote against Spanish rule. Part of the Cabildo was torn down to create an entry point from the Plaza de Mayo to the Avenida de Mayo. Walk down the Avenida, connecting to the Plaza Congreso, where we will see the National Congress and its immense central dome modeled after that of the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.
Attend a Tango Class this afternoon and learn about the rhythm and movement of the dance. This evening, dinner will be provided at the Tango House, and include show
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner with show

We journey just north of the city to explore the Parana River Delta and extraordinary ecological zone. We will board the Tren de la Costa along with the Rio de la Plata coast. The San Isidro courts were witness to one of the most public adoption cases the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo pursued against media mogul Ernestina Noble de Herrera. A short walk around the town takes us to the San Isidoro Cathedral before returning to the train which will depart for Tigre Delta, the world’s largest and only delta that does not end at an ocean or sea. Upon arrival at Tigre, we will take in the natural scene and crafts at the Fruit Dock in Tigre, where we may see some fruit in the process of exportation. Our tour of the Delta also includes a ride on a riverboat to better see how people turned the swampy delta into modern/developed land and freshwater canals. Our guide will point out native birds and flora along the way. Return to hotel. Dinner included in a local restaurant.

Today we will enjoy an excursion to the Pampas and visit a typical “Estancia” or farm. The Pampas is one of the most important economical areas in Argentina, flat, windy grasslands where plants and animals survive through adaptation. On the Estancia, the gaucho traditions are kept alive and we will spend the day in the countryside gaining a newfound understanding of a typical Argentine ranch. On arrival, we will visit the Estancia House (museum) before sampling local homemade empanada pastries. Enjoy a typical Asado lunch. We will also enjoy a Gaucho Dance and Music Show, followed by viewing the gaucho’s skills on their horses as we view Cuadreras and Ring Races. We may also observe ways that farming and ranch life have affected the natural habitat. This evening, dinner will be provided in a local restaurant.
