Short trekkings for a day in Torres del Paine

The fabulous Torres del Paine National Park offers many trekking options to do in one day, beyond the famous multi-day treks, such as the W circuit and the O circuit. These are beautiful treks of 1 to 8 hours with spectacular views, many times unknown. Next, we develop some interesting trekking options in Torres del Paine for the day.

Trekking Cuernos del Paine, Nordenskjold Lake and Salto Grande

One of the great options is the trekking to Cuernos del Paine. It is a short trekking and very little slope, which is an option for the vast majority of people who want to enjoy this unique corner in Patagonia. From the Salto Grande area, where there is parking, you can walk 10 minutes to El Salto. Then you have to keep walking to see the sign that indicates the beginning of the trail.

The route is full of attractions, starting with the imposing Salto Grande and then entering mysterious lagoons within the Patagonian steppe. During the tour, you will surely see some typical animals of the area, such as foxes and guanacos. The end of the road is a spectacular viewpoint, with a panoramic view of Lake Nordenskjöld, and the famous and great Cuernos del Paine. In front of the viewpoint there is also the French Valley, one of the valleys that is crossed during the famous W Circuit.

This trek to the Cuernos del Paine has a total duration of approximately 2 and a half hours, with a low difficulty, on an almost flat terrain

Trekking to Peninsula Lago Grey

To carry out this trek, you must go to the Gray sector, in the south west sector of the Torres del Paine National Park. There is a parking lot there and there is the beginning of the trail that will take you to the Peninsula of Gray Lake

This trek goes through a calm landscape with rivers, beaches and forests. The circuit begins immediately after crossing a suspension bridge over the Pingo River. From there, you walk through a forest of large Lengas. The panorama opens when you reach the beach of Lago Gray, which must be crossed to reach a small peninsula. Once there, you can access the Gray Viewpoint, where you can see icebergs that have traveled from the Gray glacier that is higher. Hidden behind the viewpoint is the continuation of the path through the peninsula. The landscape is wonderful, with shrubs, low trees, lagoons and seasonal flowers, among which the orchids stand out.

It is a short trek, with a two-hour round trip and a low technical difficulty, which makes it suitable for all types of public.

Ferrier Viewpoint Trekking

This is the highest intensity trek on the short treks list, but it is worth it because in the end you will enjoy a wonderful and unique view of Torres del Paine National Park. The start is near the Gray Nursery in the south west sector of the National Park, where there is parking. Then, you have to walk towards the beginning of the trail.

The Ferrier circuit crosses an endless number of different and wonderful terrain. Here are the most beautiful forests of Torres del Paine, without a doubt. Especially during the fall season when the diversity of colors that go from green to yellow and red transform the landscape. The journey quickly becomes a constant ascent that goes from 100 to 700 meters in just 2.2 kms. It is undoubtedly a demanding journey up. Near the top is a forest with several fallen trees and closed canopies that obscure the sky. Already in the viewpoint there is nothing but rock and a shaking wind. There in the distance, you can see the Pingo glacier and lake, the Gray glacier and lake, the Paine massif, an infinity of other lakes, the Sierra Baguales and even Argentina. It is a trek that takes about 4 to 5 hours in total, with a high difficulty, due to the unevenness.

Trekking to Valle del Frances

The French Valley is one of the three main attractions of the W circuit, being one of the most attractive trails in the National Park, and it is clearly a must for those who like hiking and are in good physical condition.

The experience begins at the Pudeto Pier, where we will take the catamaran with which we will cross the icy turquoise waters of Lake Pehoé, to the slopes of Cerro Paine Grande. Here begins a wonderful walk full of scenic contrasts towards the Italian camp; Here we will continue our adventure with a slight unevenness through a moraine of the old glacier in the middle of a wooded valley until we reach the French viewpoint. Open your senses and discover the sensation of being in another Torres del Paine amphitheater between huge glaciers and granite walls.

Trekking to  Base de las Torres

The trekking to Base de las Torres is one of the most iconic routes in Torres del Paine National Park, a mandatory segment within the W circuit. This demanding excursion is worthy of all the fame it treasures, both for its level of difficulty and for the unforgettable view when the weather allows it. The route is located on the eastern side of the National Park, in the Ascencio Valley – natural portico – where an intense and progressive trekking begins, full of viewpoints where you can see rivers, streams and mountain slopes. We will cross lenga forests and Andean scrub and then face a glacial moraine composed of granite blocks exposed to the inclemency of the Patagonian climate. Upon reaching the Torres lookout point, we will find one of the most famous postcards of the end of the world: an amphitheater of rocky peaks and exuberant glaciers.
