What is the best way to visit Torres del Paine National Park?

Well, there are different ways to visit Torres del Paine National Park, one of the most important attractions in Chile and Patagonia. You can reach the area flying from Santiago to Punta Arenas and then, arrive at the park by land:

Flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas Airport

After a 3:15 hour flight, you will arrive to Punta Arenas, and from there you have two options. Going to Puerto Natales to overnight there and use as a starting point for your visit to Torres del Paine, or go directly to Torres del Paine and overnight in any of the available hotels in the park.

If you go from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales, you have 2 h 53 min (247,7 km) driving by Number 9 National Route. There are several bus companies that goes from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales. And it´s the best way, and the cheaper one way to visit the park because accommodation is cheaper in Puerto Natales than Torres del Paine. So, it´s good if you want to make an overview visit to the park. But, if you want to enjoy trekking and make outdoor activities, the best way is to go directly to Torres del Paine National Park. You have 1 h 17 min (76,6 km) driving along route Y-290.

There is a third option, you can reach the area from El Calafate in Argentina. Yes, crossing by Cancha Carrera / Cerro Castillo in the border, you can reach Puerto Natales, after 3 h 26 min (273,9 km) driving through RN40. You can take any of the buses that run between both cities and it will take around 5 to 6 hours depending on the delay in the customs. You also can take a full day visit to Torres del Paine National Park from El Calafate. It´s also a good option if you do not want to continue travelling through Chile.
