5-adventure activities in the Argentinian Northwest!

Salta is the gate to visit different amazing attractions in the Argentinian northwest. And of course, if you´re looking for adventure activities I have a list. Yes, it´s just a suggested list of 5-great adventure activities you can enjoy during your visit to the area.

 

Rafting

The rafting starts in the base camp, after a transfer from your hotel in Salta. Once there, you will start with a safety briefing and an introductory rafting course. After we supply the necessary equipment, the descent starts through the rapids of the Juramento River. There are 10 rapids class III plus 5 rapids class II, surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the Juramento Canyon. The Juramento Canyon is a giant cut open between the mountains, its walls were 65 million years ago, ancient beaches inhabited by prehistoric animals. The rafting starts in the Base (Route 47, km 34) and ends 12 km downstream in the place called Los Lapachos. The trip back to the base takes 20 minutes in our vehicles.

DURATION: 2 ½ hours

STARTING TIME: every day at 10:30hs in the base (with previous booking in our sales office in Salta, we confirm the departure with a minimum of 4 passengers.

Mountain Bike: Toro´s Circuit

 

This is the circuit chosen by most of the people who want to start with an adventure tourism activity in Salta. It does not require great efforts and it travels through natural settings of immense beauty and grandeur. The Quebrada del Toro is the natural communication route between the Lerma Valley and the Puna. For thousands of years it was used by groups of people to move around, hence there are many archaeological sites there. This circuit begins in the town of Campo Quijano known as El Portal de los Andes, which is reached by vehicle and runs through the first part of the ravine, an area with deep canyons and exuberant vegetation in summer. Part of the route of the famous Train to the Clouds is known, understanding how this marvel of engineering worked and knowing some now abandoned stations such as Río Blanco and El Alisal. With a little Trekking, a beautiful waterfall called “Chorro Blanco” is known, undoubtedly the preferred point to make a stop to chat, rest and gather energy to continue towards the second part of the circuit. The second part of the circuit consists of making a descent or downhill of 6 km to the point where the vehicle awaits us to return to Salta.

Degree of Difficulty: Easy or Beginner, For all types of people, with a minimum good physical condition and a minimum technical ability.
Attention: Not suitable for people with vertigo.
Region: Lerma Valley / Quebrada del Toro.
Departure times: 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Horseback Riding San Lorenzo including lunch

Finca las Costas is a natural reserve destined to preserve the purity of the water that is consumed in the city of Salta, and it is in it where this horseback ride takes place. The route of it is directed specifically to the place called Potrero Grande, a land dedicated to herding horses, especially quiet and far from civilization. This Cavalcade can also be carried out in Quebrada de Arteaga, a place that preserves its natural beauty, you can appreciate a different view of the city.
Participants will enjoy all the fun of horseback riding, a country barbecue with all its ingredients and in addition to beautiful landscapes, crystal clear streams, an interesting interpretation of the landscape of the Montana Forest.

Safari to Potrero Grande

Potrero Grande is a place protected by mountains and of great natural beauty, it has grasslands on the plains and its slopes are covered by the Montana Forest. Those who do this excursion will venture to drive a quad bike through roads full of adventure, crossing streams, difficult slopes and they will also be able to make a walking ascent that will allow them to contemplate picturesque scenes typical of the Salta countryside.

Duration: 2 hours.
Departures: Every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Min / Max .: 2 to 10 passengers.
Limit Weight: 100 Kg
Minimum age: 16 years for the person who drives.
Difficulty level: Medium.
Speed: Moderate according to the terrain covered.

Trekking to the Clouds

The full version of the trek begins at the foot of Cerro Golgota in Ingeniero Maury and ends 4 days later in the Quebrada de San Lorenzo, in the city of Salta. This complete itinerary will take us along an ancient Inca trail through landscapes of great contrasts. The first part of the tour takes place in a dry and arid climate. The final part is done by going into the humid forests of the Yunga of Salta. Throughout the tour, we will be in contact with the nature and culture of a particular area of ​​Salta. Starting at Quebrada del Toro, our first ascent will be surrounded by cardones and will reveal the snow-capped peaks of Cerro San Miguel and Acay.
The trail will take us to visit the ruins of what was the southern part of the Inca empire at the archaeological site of Sillón del Inca. We will continue the trip visiting the current inhabitants of the area, who work their fields and cattle above 3,000 meters high. The camping sites and dinners will be the time to share with the group and sometimes with the local people, on the nights that we camp at their posts. A highlight has to do with the quality of the meals that we are including. We want to hike together in the mountains, but then enjoy comfortable camping.
For this we strive to offer a quality service, both in the variety and selection of the menus, the snacks, the breakfasts and the meals that we offer you. Also for the equipment, we provide in the camps. Nothing to eat on the ground or inside the tent. Our camps include a dining tent, tables, stools, cutlery, and crockery. And also a glass of wine so that every day we can share good moments of camaraderie and relaxation in the mountains.
