How to get to Lima?

Arriving to Lima by air

Flights to Lima, the capital city of Peru, arrives to Jorge Chavez International Airport. Travelers typically fly into Lima and then take other forms of transportation—shuttles or domestic flights, for example—to other cities. Peru is in the same time zone as the East Coast of the United States and Canada. That means that you won’t feel jet lagged when you get here.

From the airport to the touristic districts of Miraflores, San Isidro and Barranco you can use the shuttle service, or take a safe taxi. Jorge Chavez International Airport is one of the busiest airports in South America. Add to the fact that the area is reasonably unsafe and at about 17 km from Miraflores, San Isidro and Barranco, it is important to find a safe and secure way to get to your destination in Lima. Usually travellers stay in the Miraflores, San Isidro or Barranco districts. If you’re staying in one of these districts, it is best to use the service of Airport Express Lima (AEL). If you’re staying in another district you can opt for a taxi or shuttle service

Arriving to Lima by land

You can arrive to Peru by land in a bus service or car from the surrounding countries of Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Major buses that ply these routes tend to be quite comfortable and equipped with bathrooms, food, movies, and more. Peru has 10 border crossings with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, and Bolivia. The crossings are open year-round and are fairly straightforward as long as you have your passport and tourist card handy.
