Torres del Paine National Park is located in the Torres del Payne commune, Ultima Esperanza Province, Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica, it was created on May 13, 1959.

On April 28, 1978, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, which means that it is part of the representative areas of the different ecosystems of the world, and that they serve as standards to measure the impacts of man on the environment. It has 181,414 hectares, plus an administrative area of ​​227,298 hectares.

Torres del Paine National Park: Access

There is direct access by land all year round through a paved road of 250 kilometers between Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales and later 150 km by Route 9 North until reaching the Sarmiento and Laguna Amarga goals.

It is also accessed by road Y -290, known as Lake Porteño, an 80-kilometer route that connects Puerto Natales to the park, reaching directly the Serrano Port and the Administration. It also joins the Torres del Paine tourist circuit, where the visitor can appreciate the natural beauties of the area, such as the Tenerife hill, the Ventisquero river, the Rincón river, the Porteño lake, the Toro lake and the Villa Serrano. There are viewpoints to facilitate contemplation of the environment.

During the months of October to April there are several bus companies that make daily regular trips from the city of Puerto Natales to the National Park with the final destination Administrative Headquarters (entrance through Laguna Amarga, via Cerro Castillo). There are also organized trips (tour), which can be hired in the city of Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas for one or more days.

Another important access road is the Río Don Guillermo border crossing, located in Villa Cerro Castillo 52 km from Portería Sarmiento and 58 km. from Laguna Amarga, and that communicates with the town of Calafate, Argentine Republic.
