How to get to El Calafate?

El Calafate, in the argentinian Patagonia, is the gate from where you can visit the unique Perito Moreno Glacier and many other attractions in the area of Los Glaciares National Park. It`s a remote place, and of course main arrival is by plane, but you also can arrive by land in buses that came from other areas of Patagonia, or from Chile. Arriving to El Calafate by air

There are many regular flights to the International Airport in El Calafate. The flights come from main cities of Argentina: Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Bariloche and Ushuaia. There are some flights from Trelew too.  Of course, during spring and summer season, it`s from October to March, there are more frequences due the high season of Patagonia.
There is a second option. You can arrive to Rio Gallegos Airport, a city located 300 km from El Calafate and then by bus in a paved route.

 

Arriving to El Calafate by land

Travelling by road , you can arrive by car or buses. One option is from Rio Gallegos, capital of the province of Santa Cruz, and may be after arriving to these local airport. You also can arrive from El Chaltèn and other cities in the north of Patagonia, and from Chile. There are regular buses from Puerto Natales that takes around 5-6 hours. Distance from Buenos Aires is 2750 km,  so it`s a little far away to take the ride by car, but it`s also an option.
