What to eat in Bariloche?

Bariloche, gate to the incredible lakes district, is also an excellent place to enjoy some local specialties. Of course the delicious chocolate, but also great local smoked dishes like the deer, the trout, the jabali, the patagonian lamb, and more. Take a look to the following list:

The Chocolate

Another tradition from the alpine people is the chocolate. There are great chocolate shops in the town centre for visitors who want to taste it. These shops are located on the main street called Bartolomé Mitre and I`m sure you will see them during your walk. One of the suggested shops is Mamuschka, but there are many like Rapa Nui, or Chotolates El Turista. The factory can be visited for those interested in more and more chocolate!

Patagonian Lamb

Another great dish to taste is the unique Patagonian Lamb. Called “Cordero Patagonico”, it`s lamb meat roasted slowly. It`s a very traditional dish in all Patagonia and exquisite! The exquisite Patagonian Lamb - El Calafate - RipioTurismo DMC for Argentina

Smoked Flavors: Trout, deer, salmon and more

Bariloche is very well know for the smoked specialties, like the deer and the trout. You definitely have to try any of these local dishes (or may be all of them).  Fish is great, and trout and salmon are generally found in a wide variety of preparations: grilled, or filled pasta such as ravioli or sorrentinos. There are great restaurants to enjoy these special smoked dishes, like Familia Weiss, located in the city centre.

The Curanto

If you`re looking for something more traditionalal, the Curanto is a great option. It`s an aborigin dish that involves cooking a variety of meat including beef, pork,or lamb with a variety of vegetables in a pit covered with soil. Yes! If you go to Colonia Suiza few km from Bariloche centre, you will find restaurants that prepares this unique dish.
