Explore Chinchero, Moray, and Ollantaytambo
Your journey begins with a visit to Chinchero, a traditional Andean town where the Inca system of ayllus thrives. We’ll stop at the Parwa cultural center to witness the vibrant process of textile-making, from natural dyes to intricate weaving techniques. Take time to explore the live demonstrations by local artisans and shop for unique handmade textiles.
Next, we’ll take a short walk to admire the church of Nuestra Señora de Monserrat before exploring the Chinchero archaeological complex. This ancient site, once a hub of agriculture and livestock during the Tahuantinsuyo, features terraces and aqueducts that showcase Inca engineering.
Continuing the journey, we’ll visit the archaeological site of Moray, an innovative Inca agricultural center with concentric terraces used for crop experimentation. The varying microclimates at this site enabled the Incas to grow diverse crops in a single location.
Finally, we’ll arrive at Ollantaytambo, a remarkable site that served as a military, religious, and agricultural center. Positioned on a mountain, it offers breathtaking views of the valley and town below. Take time to walk through the charming streets of Ollantaytambo, where the original Inca urban design still thrives.
