Ushuaia is a great destination, visited by travellers from around the world. So, you will find different restaurants with international cuisine. But there are some local dish that are great and are a must-try when you visit the southernmost city in the world. There are different places to enjoy great local dishes, from upscale restaurants, where you can taste regional dishes in addition to sophisticated international cuisine to fast food with very affordable menus.

 

TASTE THE KING CRAB

One of the most distinguished options to taste when you visit Ushuaia is the South Atlantic King Crab. The King Crab is available in many restaurants in the centre, and is served in different ways. This exquisite dish, called “Centolla” in spanish, is one of the highlights of the fueguin gastronomy.

ENJOY THE PATAGONIAN LAMB

Another dish to taste is the typical Patagonian Lamb. It`s exquisite! Sheep production represents an important role inside the Argentine agriculture system. By the end of XIX century, Argentina had 74 million sheep, but that number has decreased over recent years. At the farms located in the center of an area called “Pampa Patagonica”, depending on how dry the area is, the average farm is 20 thousand hectares to make it a productive unit.

The way to enjoy lamb is grilled, although it is apt for other types of preparations (by the way the lamb of the region has a very low fat content as compared to other lamb). This is due to the diet of natural grass and the large extensions of land on which the sheep graze. You can enjoy this unique dish in different restaurants in the city, or also in Estancias where you can enjoy a day, and taste a typical lunch with Patagonian Lamb (usually called Cordero al Asador)
