Submarine Whale Watching in Peninsula Valdes

Enjoy a Unique Submarine Whale Watching in Peninsula Valdés

One of the highlights when you visit Peninsula Valdés is whale watching. It’s truly a must-do activity during your trip. Watching these incredible creatures swim around you is unforgettable.

Among all options, one of the most unique experiences is the Yellow Submarine—a semi-submersible vessel specially designed for underwater whale watching. The activity departs from Puerto Pirámides, the only village inside the peninsula and the starting point for many excursions.

Submarine Whale Watching

What makes the Yellow Submarine special is its ability to let you see whales underwater, right in their natural environment. The submerged lower deck offers a perspective that’s usually only possible through scuba diving. Thanks to 40 underwater viewing windows, you’ll have a clear and continuous view of the whales as they swim near the vessel.

Onboard, passengers can move freely between:

  • The submerged lower deck for underwater views

  • The outdoor upper deck for panoramic surface sightings

The combination of both perspectives guarantees a one-of-a-kind whale watching experience.

  • Duration: 1.5 hours

  • Wildlife sightings (depending on the season):

    • Southern right whales

    • Sea lions

    • Patagonian coastal birds

After a short navigation, the vessel reaches the whale watching area where the cruise begins from Puerto Pirámides.

Throughout the experience:

  • You can choose to stay on the upper deck or the underwater viewing area

  • A professional whale guide will provide detailed commentary and answer questions

  • Passengers enjoy the tour comfortably seated while observing wildlife

Important Notes

  • No age restriction, but children under 3 must be accompanied by an adult

  • To access the submerged deck, passengers must descend 12 steps

The Semisubmersible

The Yellow Submarine was specially designed and built in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires Province, and later transported to Puerto Pirámides.

The vessel allows you to:

  • Walk freely on the upper deck, like on a traditional boat tour

  • Watch whales from the lower deck, as if diving among them

On the lower level:

  • There are 40 viewing windows (20 on each side)

  • Each window has its own seat, offering a clear view of the underwater environment
