Patagonia Night Sky Tour from El Calafate
Discover Patagonia’s night sky on a guided astronomy experience outside El Calafate. Travel to Estancia La Catalina, away from urban lights, and enjoy an evening of stargazing with an astronomy guide, telescopes and binoculars.
Learn to recognize stars and constellations, discover stories connected with mythology and Indigenous interpretations of the sky, and observe the celestial objects visible that night. The experience also includes warm ponchos, hot drinks, sweet snacks and a night-sky photograph.
Pick-up from your accommodation in El Calafate. Travel approximately 30 km to Estancia La Catalina, leaving the city lights behind.
Upon arrival, receive a warm poncho and meet your astronomy guide.
Begin with an introduction to the southern sky, learning how to identify stars and constellations, use the sky for basic orientation and discover some of the stories and cultural interpretations associated with it.
Continue with guided observation using telescopes and binoculars.
Depending on the season, lunar phase and weather conditions, you may observe the Moon, planets, stars, nebulae, the Milky Way and other deep-sky objects.
A photograph of you or your group beneath the Patagonian night sky is also included.
Enjoy hot drinks and a selection of sweet treats at the estancia before starting the return journey.
Depart Estancia La Catalina and travel back to town.
Arrival at your accommodation in El Calafate and end of the experience.
Total duration: approximately 3 hours.
Seasonal schedule: From December to January, the entire itinerary starts approximately one hour later, with pick-up around 10:00 PM and return around 1:00 AM.

There are no age restrictions for this activity. A reduced child rate applies to children between 3 and 11 years old.

After booking and finalizing payment, you will receive a confirmation for your purchase. Then, in less than 24 hours, you will receive the voucher that you can use to take the excursions.
If the reservation is for the next day, we will be attentive and we will send you the voucher before your excursion begins.
No specific celestial object can be guaranteed. Visibility changes according to the season, lunar phase, cloud cover and general weather conditions.
We recommend wearing warm, comfortable clothing, including a jacket, hat and gloves. Nighttime temperatures in Patagonia can be cold, even during the warmer months.

Once you’ve completed your booking and payment, you’ll receive a confirmation of your purchase. Within 24 hours, you’ll receive the voucher you’ll need to participate in the excursions.
If you’ve booked an excursion for the following day, don’t worry. We’ll make sure to send you the voucher before the excursion begins.
