SOAR or Gemini South Observatory Tour – Half Day
The tour begins with hotel pick-up in La Serena or Coquimbo and a drive toward the AURA Observatory complex at Cerro Pachón. Upon arrival at the access control gate, visitors complete the registration process and receive a short safety briefing together with general information about the observatory.
The guided visit then continues to one of the observatories within the complex, either SOAR or Gemini South, depending on availability. The experience begins in the control room, where visitors learn how astronomers organize observation sessions and manage telescope operations.
Participants then access the main telescope platform, where they can observe the primary mirror and the scientific instruments installed in the facility. The visit concludes in the mirror coating area, where the engineering processes involved in maintaining telescope mirrors are explained.
After the visit, official observatory vehicles transport the group back to the access gate. From there, transportation returns travelers to La Serena or Coquimbo, ending the excursion with hotel drop-off.
