The experience begins at 8:45 AM at our base in El Chaltén, located at Av. San Martín 872. Upon arrival, you’ll check in and be greeted by our friendly bilingual guides. After a brief welcome, we’ll get you suited up with all the necessary technical and safety gear: a 3mm wetsuit, microfleece layer, waterproof jacket, life vest, helmet, neoprene boots, and a dry bag for your personal items.
By 9:00 AM, once everyone is ready, you’ll receive a concise safety and paddling orientation. Then, you’ll hop aboard our support vehicle for a 40-minute drive along the scenic RP 41. The route takes you through the striking Patagonian landscape on the way to the launch point near Lago del Desierto.
At approximately 10:10 AM, you’ll arrive at the Mirador Laguna Cóndor, the starting point of the float. With your paddle in hand and final gear adjustments made, you’ll gently enter the Río de las Vueltas. This peaceful section of river winds through dense Andean-Patagonian forest, with the impressive Mount Fitz Roy rising in the distance. The calm, shallow waters and gentle curves of the river make it a perfect experience for families, beginners, and anyone seeking a quiet moment in nature.
The float covers around 12 km and lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the weather and river flow. You’ll arrive at Estancia Bonanza around 11:40 AM, where you’ll change into dry clothes and either prepare for the ride back to town or sit down for lunch if you’ve selected that option.
If you’ve chosen the lunch experience, a traditional Patagonian meal will be served around 12:15 PM. Enjoy a feast of lamb barbecue (asado al asador) or Curanto al hoyo, with fresh salads, hot side dishes, dessert, and your choice of a soft drink or a glass of wine—all with sweeping views of Fitz Roy in the background.
After lunch and some time to relax at the estancia, you’ll depart around 3:00 PM for the return trip to El Chaltén, arriving back at the base by approximately 3:30 PM.
