Archaeological tour to Pucara de Quitor in Atacama

After pick up from your hotel we will go to the Pucará de Quitor. This fortress was the seat of the political and social power of the Atacama civilization in the 12th century. The enclosure was built on top of a hill, based on artificial terraces that grouped houses and rooms such as wineries and warehouses. We will visit the Pucará de Quitor site and learn about the history of its inhabitants, a town that managed to prosper in an arid environment and resist the pressure of the expansion of the Aymara and the Incas. Next, we will visit a farm in the Atacama region. Its inhabitants will show us how they combine traditional cultivation and livestock techniques with technological advances and will offer us a tasting of typical products.

We will go to the archaeological site of Tulor. There we will discover the remains of the culture of the artisans who lived in this town before the arrival of the conquerors. The wind and the sand of the desert have buried part of the buildings, but the structures of the houses and enclosures can still be visited. Did you know that it is the oldest settlement in the region? Finally, we will return to the center of San Pedro de Atacama, where we will travel back in time to colonial times, visiting the church of San Pedro, a monument built in 1745 with adobe, cactus wood and carob. It will surprise you!
